Flourless black bean chocolate brownie recipe

Brownies made from black beans? Yes and I could not even tell they are made of black beans and no flour. They are rich in taste, chocolaty, moist and high in protein. For all you protein junkies out there, you can add a scoop of protein powder to the recipe. Also you can add some nuts and other flavourings if you like.

Ingredients

  • 400 g tinned black beans, rinsed well and drained
  • 3 eggs
  • 5 tablespoons (75 ml) coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup agave syrup on any other liquid sweetener
  • 1/2 cup cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup almond meal
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla essence
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 100 g roughly chopped good quality dark chocolate
  • about 10 chopped dates

Directions

  1. Preheat oven 180 C/350F. Line baking tray with baking paper and grease it lightly with coconut oil.
  2. Put black beans in to food processor and blend till form in to smooth paste. Add eggs and coconut oil and blend again.
  3. Add sweetener, cacao, vanilla, almond meal, baking powder and chopped dates. Process till smooth and well combined. Add chopped chocolate and process a little more.
  4. Spoon mixture in to baking tray and smooth the top with a spoon.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until inserted skewer comes out clean. Cool it in the tin. Slice and serve.

They are so delicious. Can’t wait till I can make them again 🙂

  1. Making these once more and this time i’m using half a banana instead of dates and i made the recipe in half and I AM IN LOVE WITH UR COOKING IDEAS!

    • It is so nice to know that you love my cooking ideas 🙂 thanks so much! I love dates, that’s why I added them, but I am sure banana works well too. I might try to make them with nuts or nut butter 🙂
