Homemade basil pesto

Pesto works well with so many different dishes. Mix it into salads, pasta, serve it with fish, meat, bread, the list goes on and on. Pesto is easy to make, is ready in minutes and bursting with fresh herb flavor. You can use different herbs, nuts, add garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, olives and Parmesan cheese for creating different tasting pesto. Taste your pesto and add more of any ingredients you are using to perfect the taste. Sometimes you might feel it needs more salt or lemon or any other ingredient till it turns out for your liking.


  • 2 handfuls of fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • juice from half of lemon
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1/3 cup good quality olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper

  1. Blend all ingredients except olive oil in a food processor.
  2. Drizzle in olive oil while food processor is running.
  3. Taste and adjust, adding  any of the ingredients (when needed) until you are happy with a taste.
